After being away from each other for many weeks, my 8-year old granddaughter recently held my hand and squeezed gently three times. She said “Momma told me about the secret hand squeeze language.” as she looked at me with a sweet grin. My father, who is long gone, told my siblings and me as children the three squeezes said “I love you” without words. So no matter the circumstances, as long as we could hold hands we could say this to each other. This practice in turn passed to my daughter and now to her children. This article beautifully reminded me of a beautiful silent tradition that links our family’s generations. Thank you.
As one of the many millions of grandmother's that is reading this, I felt revered and a gentle hug from reading this. We definitely move through life stages into our journey to grandparenthood .♥️
How intimate & lovely. I have not recovered from some life changing events. This snippet hit home for me. Just dreamt this morning after waking up at 5 wondering where my phone was. I went back to sleep after finding my phone under the bed. Anyway, independence is good when you get old, but sometimes feels lonely. Bless you for taking the time to show you care & establishing intimacy even if the depth did not always exist before. 🥳😍
What a beautiful story. From looking at your art, I bet it flows effortlessly from your pen. You're a very nice person, and you get ten gold stars in my book for being so loving to your grandmother. She needs it, and she'll need more of it in the future.
I would love more of articles from writers like Chris Schwaar. Lovely write up. She squeezes my hand and I squeezed mine back. 👏👏 Beautiful.
Enjoy the time and keep holding her hand. My grandmother passed away almost 30 years ago. I still miss her.
This is so revealing. Some like what happened in my family. Great story.
Work, school & worries keep many families from sharing such valuable time. So inspiring to hear!
Wonderful article and reminder of the importance of family connection's and relationships that truly impact our lives.
