Respectfully, bs. Some people DO engage in meaningful small talk. These small but sometimes meaningful exchanges remind us that we are all connected.

In Germany you usually don’t do this kind of senseless conversation, and I have to add luckily. I wouldn’t ask a stranger how they feel unless I really want to know. And I would find it very rude being asked about my sentiments by a total stranger who is barely interested in my mental wellbeing. So please leave this nonsense out and tell me what you really want. Plain and simple as it is. I simply prefer authentic conversation.

Yes, I agree. It has somehow gotten to be im the US a means of self-gratification to socially force someone else to talk to you, i.e., ACKNOWLEDGE you. Small talk is about ‘me, me, me’….because people admit it is just a script. It is a way to get attention…not to share informatiom.

I really liked the Creuset article, a crossover between debunking the myth that you “need” a Creuset to be a “real” cook, and the fact that Creuset, too, is pushing towards overconsumption (once you have one pan, one pot, one grilller, you should be set for life especially as this brand is known for being passed down to generations).
