Hey Substack reads! There's not much of fiction in these posts, so I just wanted to plug our little corner of the internet here. I write daily micro-fiction prompts to keep people writing even on days when the inspiration runs low, and my latest weekly issue of the Batch (which is a compilation of the stories written on said prompts) included 83 writers. So I thought that is a cool Substack moment for you to check out! :)

It’s annoying that I subscribe to this, and I didn’t get it in my feed until I saw this prompt about a prompt. It's time to start muting the noise and streamlining my feed again.

For anyone whose interest is piqued by that beautiful painting from French artist Suzanne Valadon (1865-1938) there's a wonderful fictionalized account of her life that I read for the BookLife Prize this year - Marta Molnar's "Girl Braiding Her Hair" - it was wonderful!

We lost our home to a house fire Father’s Day weekend back June 2014. We had gone to our park trailer in VA to prep it for spending summer there. Just past 11pm security pounded the door. Had turned the flip phone off going to bed. It was a sleepless night. Fire started in the basement back home. Unknown origin. We bugged out in the am. The next year was tumultuous. Not even the Red Cross came after. Finally the following June we moved back in. So much was lost forever. It’s a feeling no one rich or poor should ever fear but we did. We pray for NC & CA their losses that will in some of the cases lost forever.

Having lived alongside the horror of several fires in the Yosemite area and moved away to more relative safety, I find myself wondering why LA gets SOOO much more attention than those fires. “Famous and nowhere” or never gonna be famous in the middle of “nowhere” national park.

Here it is April 5th and while the world is laughing at the US and their idiotic president and the people are out protesting everything the orange idiot has done, what’s our fearless leader doing to right the ship, he’s out on the golf links for the 3rd day in a row trying to win his, what is it, 20th tournament in a row I’d like to be a fly on that golf bag experiencing how many mulligans he takes every game and how many balls he kicks back into play from out of bounds or behind trees If he plays golf as well as he runs the country, he’s for sure cheating every chance he gets The lying cheating sack of dog growl.
