Really like the SKU stories from Target and Costco and definitely want to dig deeper into them. Fewer SKUs is often strategically good because focus matters more than breadth. However, maybe it is just my personal feeling, but no matter what, you still eventually end up going to places like Walmart or Target to grab the specific items you need and you spend more money than you planned.

Worked for them in Oklahoma City at the call center and it was the cruelest... Most oppressive work environment I've ever been in and 100% opposite of Union...
was that location not organized with the Teamsters? Their union representation is actually lower than I thought 💀 mb. You deffo didn't have a union in OKC. But I live in northern IL and Costco team members make like 23/hr cause they're organized with the IBT.
(For the record, teamster members only make up about 10% of Costcos work force. that number is high compared to target and Walmart, but it is still way to low. UPS is fully unionized, for example.)
Pay was pretty decent in Oklahoma City but they would only give you 24 hours... It was hard for me to see the majority of employees being minorities, specifically single black mothers... Almost all of them afraid to go to the bathroom because their numbers would go down.... One woman lost her son and when she came back she was scattered brain as happens with people during trauma... Forgot to clock in from break a few times and was suspended... Stuff like that... It was really really dark... I was there because I got fired from my previous job speaking out against the Oklahoma City Thunder billionaire arena Swindle so it was all around a pretty miserable time For me but I think if the situation was different it still would have been pretty bad because it's not a happy place...
And the private Equity angle makes the people there have to work harder and less resources because the vendors are being gutted but there's no compensation for that with the employees... But the people higher up don't care because they've got it great and they're the ones that matter with the DEI initiatives and things not the minorities at the call center or on the floor doing the work...
yeah I gotcha. i listened to that interview, you seem like a pretty astute guy and I hope the political machine doesn't lock you out or grind you up. i understand that my original comment was misled, and obviously corporate dgaf about us workers. Costcos high pay isn't a favor from them – its a result of union organizing and strikes etc etc.
But I do insist that their business model *enables* them to pay higher wages.
20/hr would be impossible at target or Walmart.
and you mentioned the part time hours ya thats a friction. but ill take 20 hours making 20 dollars at ups than 40 or 50 hours making 18 at Amazon. it is less money but its a better lifestyle. and I can always get a second part time job. thats really the future of the working economy anyway.
Good luck to you man. I think you and I probably have the same fight and the same enemies and just different perspective cause of different experiences right now. you seem progressive and thats what matters.
im a bit old school in my faith i put into workers unions, even though I see the future is gonna probably not include them. because they have so little power these days. but im not creative enough to imagine an alternative, so a union shill I'll be! join a union etc etc.
we are all workers together and keep doing what you do to spread the word and wake people up. cheers
im listening to your video and it seems like its just about private equity. private equity is booty and its sad how they got their claws in everything. I wish unions actually had more power over corporate decisions instead of just being the liason between employees and management.
even with full unionization at UPS, we have a CEO like Carol Tomé destroying the company from the inside.
but being organized isn't what makes costco liable to private equity

I really enjoyed this post for the diversity of topics from art to business and I particularly loved the poem! Thank you!
Likewise!
The sheer density of colloquialisms here exhausted my reading capabilities.
Unique collection.
Thank for explaining SKUs. Costco won’t.
helps that Costco is UNIONIZED
imagine. they keep costs down by SERVING THE CUSTOMER and PASS those saved costs to their EMPLOYEES.
WHAT AN IDEA

An abundance of food equals an abundance of disease
