Wow I loved these guys talking about books. This used to be how people shared the experience of art, any art, and it was exciting to explore ideas with other people. In my experience this simple yet important joy in life has vanished.

I raised all 3 of my sons, who are now middle-aged, on Frog and Toad, and they all say those books were always their favorites. I loved reading those stories to them too, which was an unusual experience then (‘70s-‘80s). Well worn copies have been handed down to the next generation.

After my Navy career, I taught elementary school for 23 seasons. Creating projects with books and media was always the best! The students arrived happy and left for the day happy! God Bless them all!

I come from a family of readers from as early as I can remember. My mother was a public librarian so there you have it. She would turn over in her grave if she knew what was happening today. I just read that funding for libraries was being curtailed. It is going to be a long long 4 years.

So much of our rights are being stepped on and this is only the beginning. We have the rest of this administration to suffer. We will probably lose much more before this president is done. The elderly and children and disadvantaged people will be deeply harmed. Everyone will be affected in some way and for what?

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't understand. I do like, though, that girls like Riley Gaines who had to compete in a swimming championship against a much taller man who couldn't win against men, or that young volleyball player who suffered brain damage from playing against a much stronger man who hit her with a hard stroke, might not have to compete against men. I think maybe there should be three separate leagues. I think there's enough money to support scholarships for all three, i.e., college age men, women, and men who dress like women

Thank you again for your answer.

I Want My Hat Back is the best book I bought my (now 15 yr old) daughter. I think I laughed way more than she did; it was the minimalism for me. I have a fascination around how books are made, anyway. I notice what's missing as well as what's been added. When I was an Inner London teacher in the 90s, I used to deconstruct damaged books with my (otherwise unruly and unteachable) primary-age pupils. We'd work out how it had been constructed, and make small versions of our own. They'd then go and read them to the infants-age children. It was the only way I could get them to pick up a book at all. That love has never died for me. I love everything about this. Keep them coming.
