How great this is! I thoroughly enjoyed and would love to hear more! How about your travels more in CA? Like Santa Cruz, or Monterey? I grew up in Los Altos and was growing up in the 1970's. It was a sleepy little town. Now it is a Tesla infested rich megalopolis. One has to have millions to live there. So different than how it was.

I also grew up in Los Altos! When people in the PNW where I live now hear that, they assume that I am among the mega rich. They have no notion of what a cozy, lovely, unpretentious town it was in the 60’s and 70’s.

Yes, it's a totally different place, unrecognizable. I don't go there anymore.

Yep! I moved out in the 90’s too rich for me.

I spent my jr. high and high school years (1964-2970) in Los Altos graduating from LAHS in 1970. It was an exciting time to be there. The cultural and political scene definitely shaped my life choices as did the stunning geographical beauty of the area. Interestingly, my best friend from high school settled in Bolinas in the late 1970s and remains there helping run their family organic farm, Gospel Flat Farm with its wonderful community farm stand and art gallery. I love visiting there.

I graduated in 1960 from LAHS--public education at its best!

You are so right about that. LAHS was exceptional. The teachers, the choice of classes - even the students. Very highest quality experience.

Yes, me, too. I wrote a memoir about growing up in Los Altos, Missing Persons, an elegy for the valley as well as my family. The valley of heart's delight...

I would love to read your book! Just checked my library and asked for it! Thanks for sharing! I lived on Mora Court, just off Mora Drive. I used to ride my bike downtown to work at the Pharmacy when it was owned by brothers.

When I was watching the video, if I had been going by the “sound of your voice” I would have never attached it to a person who was 90 years young! It’s strong, clear, and credible. ✌🏼🙏🏼

I had the same thought! The voice did not match his chronological age, but his spiritual age!!

I had the same impression! Nothing about this man reveals his age - his voice, his physical prowess, his thoughts and sharing, nothing! I and 14 years younger than he and I am in awe of him!

So far that was my favorite Substack post! Lloyd is a pretty spunky and witty fellow! He has so much to share with us! Thank you Substack, for seeing the best in every writer.

I agree - my favorite too. I grew up in the Bay Area in the early 70’s before my family moved us to the South. This was so enjoyable to watch.

This was great. I love Lloyd Kahn's books on handbuilt shelters. I was raised in Southern CA when the air was so clear it looked like you could just reach out and touch the San Bernardino mountains. When I was 10 we took a vacation to Northern CA & I fell in love with San Francisco. I moved there in the late 60s before the Pyramid was built (we kept remarking on how it ruined the skyline). I had my favorite streets, Lombard, Irving, & Green St. Now I'm in a Sacramento suburb. The town is called a village & my yard is a jungle of plants & flowers. I can't really leave California as I love it's diversity too much. Keep up the great filming. It's a welcome relief from the news of the day.

I hate the Transamerica pyramid. it's really a dumbass building. I'm surprised that so many people seem to like or tolerate it.

Bless your beautiful soul Lloyd, and thank you for this movie. I was fortunate to live in San Francisco for 2 decades and North Beach is still where my heart lies. Knowing you visit the Buena Vista weekly makes my heart happy.
