this is life. the magic of the garden, the omission of relentless care in the garden and the friendly growl of the dog at the end of the day. real earth magic.

Jo Thompson's avatar

Thank you for these lovely words - and that growl was so funny - I do have a video of that moment when he growled - Iโ€™ll post it!

Thatโ€™s great, are you going to add a film and television category to the Substack categories?

Hi my name is Dan Allen, I love my garden , I feel peace and tranquility. T is a wonderful is a wonderful place for conversation. I was inspired by George Harrisonโ€™s garden at Friar Park.

That garden has such an interesting story - I've never been there but have friends who have been lucky enough to visit it and they say it's wonderful

Omg- the dogโ€™s name โ€œBasilโ€ just brought happy/sad tears to my eyes. I lost my boxer, Basil, in March and she was such a love; I couldnโ€™t have asked for a better dog to come into my life! Sounds like your Basil is a male - Enjoy him! What breed is he?

Jo Thompson's avatar

Ah thank you Leslie, and I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. It's just so heartbreaking, I know. This Basil (boyBasil!) is a yellow Labrador - and he's a love too. He says to say thank you!

The rose that's spied for a moment at the bottom of the shot at 1:30 is what I and my friends call the "Winkie Rose," in memory of a very close friend. I looked for and found a 'nameless' rose in a garden shop and bought 5 plants, one for each of us to plant in her memory. We are the Mommunists, formed in 1974 or 5; a group born of necessity; our motto is "Always share, never do anything you know in your heart is wrong, and always take a sweater." Winkie (formally known as Lyn) was our north star.
