If Substack Notes can become twitter but with writers instead of drama, I’m here for it!

Twitter seems to moving towards more the drama and viral posts, so hopefully that energy stays there. I’m bullish that attaching short posts to long form writing will help foster more nuanced discussions.

Wow!! I was just thinking about that, and saw your comments! TOTALLY AGREE. I stopped using Twitter due to the drama and toxicity!

Notes looks really promising. Excellent stuff, Substack!

Can’t remember the last time I had this much fun on the public internet (as opposed to in private group chats etc).

Hopefully Notes will replace doomscrolling with joyscrolling for many twitter refugees.

Joyscrolling: I like that. We'll see. I worry about Substack "becoming" Twitter-Side B.

I really thought I’d like this because I left Twitter post-Musk last year and didn’t like how it left me feeling mentally. But there were some aspects of it I’ve missed and so I thought this might fill that niche as I find Substack a lot healthier. However, after the initial excitement wore off, I noticed that Notes was doing to me exactly what Twitter, Instagram, etc did which was feed my anxieties and jealousies and suck me into short hits of dope that I’m trying to get away from. Essentially, it’s feeding my mental illnesses just like regular social media and so it unfortunately isn’t for me, even though I see the use. Maybe when I’m in a better space I’ll try Notes again.

Well, Tyler what exactly are you looking for? Everywhere you go your going to find a flaw that's just part of life. You rise above it all and become stronger and a better person emotionally.

Wow, thank you for the unsolicited advice. If only I could pick myself up by my bootstraps and no longer have mental illnesses. Cheers!

I have occasional comments lately that loved ones are worried , think I am on a spectrum of some sort- hmmmm my one counselor: don’t you just get in your car and scream?

Hmmmm yes but isn’t that road rage?

I also feel bitter sweet about this feature. Give me an option to disable it in the app, I come here for peace of mind and might not want to hear the chatter from next door all the time.

Expand this into am essay. The psychological effects of our online activity are very important

I am writing a personal essay on this which goes over a lot of how I feel about seeking community and the brain rot of social media. I’m mostly just in the editing stage but now want to incorporate some comments on Notes since it’s out. Hopefully it’ll be published within the week.

Well, I am a sucker for the use of the term 'atomization' so I'll give it a gander

Facing Your Demons's avatar

Yes. I just wrote something similar on here. Twitter.

My one oldest - not too old friend and I walk for an hour - maybe once a week , mostly it’s a gabfest, we check in, we’re living different but similar lives, - one of old quotes that get us-“ I pick thingsUp, I put them down” comes up almost every occasion! That helps me digest Life that comes my way. Bon voyage also

Excellent! Thank you, Substack!

Not sure how it will pan out, but excited to have a play with this new feature!

Can’t wait to play with this

Best wishes to everyone involved — including the real and virtual readers-aloud, whom we rely upon to assist our access to this array of thoughtful stuff.

Playing with it so far... IMPRESSIVE. Well done.

I'm interested in seeing how people use Notes (including myself!) I've tried out the restacking facility and love it. It's great for taking a comment and using it to start a completely new discussion.

Along for the ride .. Substack is such an inspiring place to write and read

Facing Your Demons's avatar

True. I just hope it doesn't fall into the Twitter Trap. Notes and Chat worry me.

To me, this looks like a waste of my time. The forum will be overwhelmed.

Could be true. I worry, too.
